When you are not feeling so well, it is a
natural response for you to seek comfort.
When food is used consistently over time to alleviate stress
and negative emotions,
this leads to negative consequences. The very thing that gives
temporary relief (food)
ends up causing negative emotions (guilt) later on.
Sometimes life can be stressful and painful, and it is much
easier to turn to food for comfort
than face the issue and find the time and courage to deal
with it. Letting problems fester and using food to deal with
them just reinforces feelings of loss of control. Not only
does one feel overwhelmed with their feelings, but as a result
of overeating one also feels a bit helpless
about the weight that keeps adding on.
