Online Therapy / Online Counseling

Online counseling can be a great way to overcome roadblocks and create happiness and well being in your life. Online counseling and in Person counseling are both helpful but different.

Advantages of Online Counseling are as follows:

1. It is flexible and you can access it from anywhere. This is a great option if you are constantly traveling, have a busy schedule, or cannot leave home due to children or any other situation which restricts travel. Also, there is no traveling involved. You can gain insight from the comfort of your own home at your own time.
2. If you need quick advice on a certain issue, or just need to talk upon an issue few times over the phone, online counseling is a desirable choice due to its flexible nature.
3. Also it is convenient in a sense that your session appointments are more flexible. It is fast, and you do not have to wait for an appointment as in face to face therapy. You will receive an e-mail response in less than 48 hours.
4. It is less costly than face to face therapy.
5. In face to face therapy if you are using your Insurance, Insurance Companies have your information and have access to Records, so it is Not entirely confidential. Take Charge online therapy is Private Pay, and thus there are no intrusions from intrusive insurance companies.
6. Some people feel more comfortable expressing their concerns via phone or E-mail and feel that they can be more open and less guarded.
7. In online counseling, you can gather all your thoughts and consolidate them and fully express yourself. Also, the Therapist has time to think about her responses when using e-mails. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to review Therapist’s responses.
Online therapy is Not a good option if you are experiencing the following:

1. Thoughts of harming yourself or others (Suicidal or Homicidal)
2. Seeing, Feeling, and Hearing things or people that are not actually there. (Hallucinations)
3. Severe mental illness (Severely impairs social functioning, occupational functioning, loss of contact with reality, dangerous and reckless behavior, severe personal distress, and suicidal and homicidal thoughts). More severe the issue at hand, more the need for In person counseling and or hospitalization.
4. Also, physical cues such as facial expressions, body posture, and tone of voice are missing in an online therapy situation. (Although, tone of voice is Present in Phone Counseling).
5. In person counseling is also another wonderful avenue of growth, and some people have a preference for face to face counseling.

* If you would like In Person counseling, I have a practice in downtown Chicago area in the state of   Illinois.
